Holiday Health: Staying Active
Going on holiday doesn’t mean you have to stop exercising. As part of our Holiday Health blog series, we’re here to give you all the tips you need to stay active while you’re enjoying the summer away from home.
Explore by bike
Forget the sightseeing bus tours; get out there and explore by foot or bike. After all, it’s easier to take photos like this, rather than on a moving bus. One of the best things about travelling is discovering your new home for the next week or so.
A downside is that this can be tiring (especially under the hot sun!), which is why we suggest incorporating guarana into your diet to stay energised. Guarana is available as powder, vegicaps and even gum - perfect for when you’re travelling light. You may also find it useful to pack a high strength curcumin and some magnesium in case of joint aches.
Experience where you are more fully
It can be tempting to jump in the lift rather than take the stairs, especially if you’re staying in the high-rise hotels of Las Vegas. However, taking the stairs is a free way to keep your cardio up, and allows you to see more of your hotel (some staircases are impressive!).
Embrace your environment
There are many activities that require little or no equipment, so why not make the most of your new surroundings? Practice your yoga on the beach, find a park gym and get in some pull-ups or take your morning jog to the promenade.
Immerse yourself in the culture
How do locals stay active in the country you’re visiting? If you’re taking a trip to Spain, consider some flamenco dancing. Perhaps you’re taking an exotic trip the Brazilian coasts - the perfect place to enjoy a game of volleyball. Wherever you’re off to, kill two birds with one stone by staying active and learning about the culture at the same time.
Aid your recovery
If you’re doing a lot of exercise, you’ll need to get a good night’s rest in order to recover. However, we all know that it can be difficult to sleep in unfamiliar surroundings. Consider packing chamomile or valerian tincture liquid extracts to be drunk with water to help you gently drift off.
