- Tincture of Berberis vulgaris leaf aka Barberry

Berberis vulgaris (also known as Barberry and Agracejo) is a tall shrub that grows in Europe, Asia and North America. Barberry has been used in Chinese, Native American and Indian folk traditions for centuries for a number of disorders. Its primary active constituent is berberine.
Each 1.5ml (30 drops) recommended daily dosage contains: Barberry alcohol water extract which is the equivalent of 500mg Barberry leaves.
Ingredients: Pure Cane Alcohol, Osmotic Water, Barberry (Berberis vulgaris) leaf from Peru.
Minimum Dry Herb Potency Ratio: 1:3
Contents: 30 ml
Alcohol content: 55 Vol.%
Food Supplement—Botanical Tincture
Suggested Adult (age 16+ years) Use: 15 drops, 2 times daily in 120ml (4 oz.) of water. We recommend starting with a lower dose of 1 drop and titrating up to the 15 drops unless otherwise advised by your practitioner. Maximum 30 drops per day.
For children aged from 4 (size/weight to be considered), 3 times daily, give one drop per number of years of age. Not suitable for baby/child younger than 4 years old or with symptoms of jaundice.
The Rio Health range, new in 2020, is a range of 25 tinctures of mainly South American botanicals. Each is a 1:3 tincture using 55% alcohol, provided in glass bottles with calibrated dropper for easy dispensing. Most of the plants are grown in Peru where they are ecologically wildcrafted.
Unlike tablets and capsules which need to be broken down by the digestive system, tinctures absorb readily by the body. No excipients are needed so each tincture contains only water, alcohol and the botanical ingredient(s). Tinctures also readily permit easy titration (increasing of dose slowly upward), which is an important consideration for adults and children alike.
Note that Rio Health tinctures likely can be used at lower dose (number of drops) than some other brands, and are competitively priced.
